Regarding the ATT/Dobson merger, is there any talk or information on Dobson retaining any of their markets? We're in Dutchess County, NY, in the Hudson Valley, where thier signal is quite strong and widespread, and I happen to work next door to where Dobson used to have a big Call Center. In the past week, I have seen Cell One employees back in their old suite, for a couple of hours and today Verizon is working on the landline ...

I don't see it as buying customers as much as added native COVERAGE for all the subscribers. Those of us in outlying areas will use the same towers we did before, but it will be native, not roaming.

Well I found out recently that all of a sudden, without any fanfare, we're roaming on VzW. Our area is a geographical challenge for cell service, and previously we roamed on Dobson. Now our phones are blocked from using a Dobson signal.Personally I didn't think cross technology GSM to CDMA was possible but I did confirm this with both Cingular and VzW, on a three way call to Tech Support. First, please get all of your facts straight. Upstate NY BBB only serves the areas of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany. Granted that is a large portion of Upstate NY, but in all truthfulness, it is not all of Upstate NY, let alone all of NY state! I live in an area of Upstate NY not covered by that BBB, and can only tell you of positive experiences with Cingular. When I have called CS, issues have ...

We're listed as being in Cingular's Upstate NY territory, in Poughkeepsie, and I really have trouble finding anything bad to say about them. They are far more responsive than Verizon was and they actually fix things WHEN you ask them to.

Thanks, guys. I have been more than pleasantly surprised, after my Verizon experience. I wonder where the reps are that I keep seeing such negative comments about? Not servicing my area at least!

I don't understand why so many of you post complaining of Cingular's CS. I have contacted them 4 times and have had stellar support each time! And they even resolved the issue I called about on the first call.

yup just recently switched to cingular from verizon since my house is in a verified t-mob dead zone i was pleasantly surprised to find decent signal, and it was dobson. about a week ago they upgraded some of the towers in dutchess apparently, cause they used to display GPRS. now they have EDGE

we just switched recently from verizon to ingular. we're in NY state, where verizon couldn't seem to address our signal issues. so far, there have been a couple of issues with Cingular, but I either called them or visited my local agent. We don't have a company stor ein our area. In each case the problems were resolved within minutes. I love being able to actually complete my calls myself instead of having them consistently ...

I had 3 T720's with Verizon and I agree with you that far. When I got the V551 I was amazed at how much better it was, and I have no complaints for it, as does my husband, who is hard of hearing.

You must be kidding! We recently cancelled Verizon and got Cingular. I have a V551, and can honestly state that the audio quality on that phone is twice as loud as any of the Verizon phones I had. Make sure you're using the volume adjustments. This phone tends to hold signal sometimes almost too long before switching towers, but the up side of that is that I don't drop calls, like I consistently did with Verizon.

Even sadder because Verizon couldn't keep us as customers! Cingular is providing usable SERVICE. I thought that's what I was paying for.

Guys, it's not your browser, it's phonescoop's server. I emailed Rich and there is a server problem. I am having trouble with FF and IE, and also PIE as well as going through 2 ISP's. He said just keep trying.

Because as bad as it is,it's still the best choice for cell service for the area. And when it does work the voice quality is so much better than my landline. And whenever I leave this county, I have no complaints at all! There's got to be more than a handful of subscribers in the area, just by the size of the crowd every time I've been at the VZW store. I've had trouble tickets generated and calls back ...

You're STILL missing the point. I'm not complaining about buying another phone. I'm stating that I have been patiently working with Verizon to resolve the local signal issues that were presented them and in 4 years have yet to see anything done about it. Worry free guarantee? What a joke! You would think that by continually paying the service charges for mediocre service would help Verizon to have the funds to correct the problem. BTW, if your cable ...

We tried this in the Hudson Valley, NY. It didn't help. I realize this is the honorable response, but I think you're being more idealistic than realistic.

Well put, mjh. Sticking with them for 4+ years, when we could have cancelled and went elsewhere has to count for customer loyalty. And we don't feel that Verizon acknowledges this in any way, or does anything to try and keep loyal customers. Maybe their commission structure isn't setup to reward Sales for this. Hmm

no, I wouldn't, but there's no one who's going to be doing that,either. yes, we do depend on txt for those things. my husband works in a store, where they don't have radio either. i work in an office with no windows. and we have 2 children in the military. not so far fetched at all.

After 4+ years of patiently waiting for VZW to bring the service up to snuff, I think I might be a candidate for a little special treatment. which is still triple what I'm paying now, paying per message. since most of our txt's are alrets received, this increase will just force us to stop using important alerts like tornado warnings, closed roads and war declarations. back to the stone age!

The detail that I find interesting about these results is not who is #1, 2, etc, but how close all of the results are to each other. In years past, there was a wide variance between the overall scores, especially those below #1 and #2. The bottom of the barrel was really a horrid score.
