I see more people switching to Verizon because of this than staying with TMO and moving to ATT. Thoughts?

Agreed. My guess is ATT's spin out of this is it will create jobs as opposed to ONLY ATT's workforce. Otherwise, there will definitely be a loss.

Use verifiable facts and logical principles, not indiscriminate BS. No one does pay that price for the phone, except Verizon from the manufacturer. They pass savings on to you if you agree to the contract. I feel like I'm typing to a brick wall....

Apparently you have no idea about how cell phone companies operate.May I remind you that A) Verizon is not a non-profit company B) These are high dollar phones C) People are willing to pay these prices. If I sell you a bottle of water for $3.00 and you are willing to pay it, am I ripping you off or supplying you with a product that's in high demand?

ALL vzw 4G phones will run 3G as well. As for SD card, do you want preinstalled or max capacity? Keep in mind this phone was just announced, so it may take a while for the full specs to filter down.

It's ALL about value, very good point. On a small side note, Verizon carries more than one phone. Just sayin'.

Closer than you'd think. There's about a $40-60 markup from invoice to "full retail." The rest is subsidized from the contract, of course, but the invoice price of the VZW Thunderbolt, for instance, is about $540.

It will eventually go down. with supply and demand, it just may take a few months. Am I the only one who remembers an age when $300 smartphones were common? Guess so... but it's ironic - I find the same people who whine about phone prices are the same ones who complain about high ETF's... gotta have one or the other.

FACT - Verizon's network is better. FACT - Sprint's plans are cheaper. FICTION - Sprint's coverage is better. STUPID - one who claims Sprint has bett6er coverage. Sprint doesn't even claim Sprint has better coverage. I'd suggest you keep your sales pitch based on Fact #2. At least it's ethical, if not weak.

There is still a steady stream of people who want a physical keyboard. The LG Ally is one of VZW's better selling smartphones, due partly because of price, partly because of the great keyboard. The Droid 2 had a garbage keyboard, as did the Droid 1. (No travel, no space between keys, etc). I think it's about an even split as to what the customer WANTS, but it seems big red sells more all touch screens because there is ...

I must have missed where cell phone carriers are 501(c) Non profit companies. There are many maintenance costs, stockholders to keep happy, and competitors to outmaneuver. I think 20 bucks/month for unlimited text messaging is fair - that's why I pay it. Does it cost the carrier less than that? Outwardly, yes, it's nearly free for the carriers because they already have the equipment - but how are those towers - which can cause several million, including leasing costs ...

I like the way you quote Sprint phones, break down how much money they're making, etc. then assume Verizon's are 100 bucks more. You're flat wrong. Verizon has had free Blackberry Storms, Blackberry BOGO offers, free Droid Eris offers, the Droid for 199 after rebate (it's cost is 538 btw, so that's 338 dollars they're eating that has to be made up - that takes a little while). The EnV Touch is another great example - 403 dollar phone that sold ...

This is a cheap iPhone knock off, not made by Apple. It looks like a cheap knock off, probably for Europe/China, probably capable for use with T-Mobile here in the US. I think what many of you, and possibly even Google overlook, is that nothing is an iPhone killer. It will take several models and handsets to overthrow Apple. It doesn't matter if the Nexus One is twice as slick as the iPhone, it's simply not Apple, and there are FAR too many people who use Apple and won't ditch the iPhone simply for the name. The iPhone isn't bad by any means. I would personally take the Eris or Droid ...

flashing a BB
Dec 29, 2009, 2:10 PM
in the Cricket forum

If I flash a BB Pearl from Sprint will the data work properly? I know they both use similar spectrums, both EVDO-Rev A (as does VZW) but if you bring Sprint phone to VZW for example, the data will not work, it's voice/text only. VZW also does not support flashing phones, whereas with Cricket it's almost encouraged, which makes sense given that with no phone subsidies to worry about, it's straight profit.

Verizon81, I know the first bill is always a killer (pro-ration, actiivation fees - which sometimes employers take care of, usually not) but your discount should be X amount of ALL data, not just Blackberry. (Ususally 25% if you work for a major corp) The only catch is that the account must be in the employee's name i.e. if you work for Wal-Mart, but it's in your wife's name, the discount does not apply (unless she also has one with ...

You could have all along. More pertinent to your quetion: If you have four or months left in contract with Alltel then yes. If not, you will eventually be brought into vzw's billing system anyway - our latest updates say august at the latest. When you port in though, you will NOT qualify for any additional credits (i.e. port in credits) but you WILL receive discounted price on phones. Check with your local vzw store.

Blackberry Niagara should be a great phone. Critics are ranting about it, and it won't be out until May-June ish. Also, I agree with above posts, there are some other neat phones coming out. With that being said, reconsider the Omnia. That's by far the best WinMo phone Verizon has ever carried. (some might argue the i730 when it first came out)

Re: What if Apple...?

Verizon wouldn't receive the "full amount" per se, but that's true in principal. Blackberry, for example, gets a portion of the 29.99 monthly feature, which is why they sibsidized the original 44.99 (which used to be standard across the board). Furthermore, those who use wireless sync with 44.99 plan on WinMo products, Nokia receives a small portion monthly. (Nokia is the manufacturer of Verizon's Wireless Sync technology). HOWEVER, if Apple DID NOT create some sort of agreement with the ...

Moto anything ought to be avoided at all costs unless you're visually impaired and need TALKS with the Q9C. We've had the Napoleon on our rebate pads for weeks now and engadgetmobile had it slated for early April - but then again so was the BB 8230. If it comes between the two, I'd go for the flip PEarl myself, provided the memory leaks were solved.

I disagree with the many here that don't like the Pearl. While I agree with the mem problems, those can be adjusted (you just need to see someone who works at vzw and knows how to fix it) things like adjusting your messages to keep forever and manually deleting them as you go along. In short, the pearl's memory isn't great - but it is fixable. The keyboard makes up for it to me though. I can type three times ...

Re: Tips for trying to land Verizon Sales Job
Mar 21, 2009, 9:41 AM

familyguy- If you're considering working for Verizon because of job security, consider an indirect (authorized retailer) where the money is better. Most of them don't force you to sell as many accessories or data before losing your job. There's less pressure. The trade off is the benefits won't be as great i.e. 401K medical benefits. We have a TON of corporate reps that apply with us, very few of which actually make it. There's a certain mindset (I'm not saying ...

Re: Switching to Verizon

No, indirect phones have the exact same phones. I would go to an indirect store, where the service is almost unanimously better. If you're anywhere near Cellular Sales stores, go there. To find a location near you, go to CellularSales.com. If you're confused about the differences, go to both corp and indirect and find out which one you prefer, as there are two very different styles of service.

Re: LG Dare charger
Mar 21, 2009, 9:15 AM
in the LG forum

The iGo, as well as any other non-OEM (original Equipment Manufacturer) charger voids the warranty on the Dare. This includes Wal-Mart's entire line of home chargers and car chargers, and most of Best Buy's. Truth be told, if something does go wrong with the phone, there's rarely a way to prove it's due solely to the charger and hence the phone will generally be replaced anyway. There have been a few situations though when Verizon refused to replace a phone ...
