Yes, there are differences between the two. "Smartphone" edition is more of a stripped down version of the "Pocket PC" one. For example, it can view Office files, but cannot edit them. It cannot copy and paste text. The devices also do not have touch screen support. These are devices such as the Motorola Q, Samsung BlackJack, etc. There are also far fewer 3rd party applications for the Smartphone edition.

VGA resolution- 640x480 in a 4:3 aspect ratio. As far as quality/bitrate, I'm not sure. Most use MPEG4 for compression though.
As far as a "fast lens", are you talking about the aperature of the lens? That is going to be very hard to evaluate. The best quality in cell phones come from Sony Ericsson and Nokia. They are glass, unlike Samsungs which are plastic. This make a big difference in the final sharpness and quality of the photo/video.

Environmentally, there will be no permanent effect . In other words, its not like the tower's emissions are irradiating the environment. If they were to be turned off, their effect on the environment would cease. Even while they are operating, their effect is probably fairly minimal. I tried that using the .mp4 codec, but it gave me that strange "Not Allowed" message. And the pure 3GP converter's resolution wont go above 176x120 or something.

I know the videos have to be in .3GP format, but is there any way to play them full screen? As is, video playback sucks and I'm thinking of getting a different phone. Also, when I try playing an .mp4 3GP file, it says "Not allowed" instead of the usual "File not supported"(with other files). Does this mean that the phone can play .mp4 files, but Samsung or TMobile has disabled it? Thanks!

I work for T-Mobile, and we are definitely getting this handset. As for Cingular and ATT, I dont know.

I work for TMobile, and yes, we are going to start carrying Sharp phones. I am not sure what the first handset would be, but the GX-30 would seem to be a likely candidate(but dont rule out the "old" GX-20). Also, the Ericsson K700 is coming soon....
