Same with Alltel. Our son was adding 3rd part apps to his phone like games etc. I talked to a store and they called CS for me to see what could be done. They said they could put a block on the account so it can not be done from the phone anymore, BUT if he wanted to go on a website he could still get them sent because Alltel has no control over 3rd parties ...

I think this should be reversed. Verizon and Alltel can't prevent a customer from signing up for a free ring tone online or game or anything else. That is why it is called 3rd party! And at the bottom of those sites it states in fine print that you will be charged by your phone carrier a monthly fee of... They charge that fee because that is what the 3rd party company is charging. ...

That is why you don't have the browser. It is possible to put other carriers phones on each carrier. The bad thing is when you do, there are services that won't work. Not sure on the Blackberry, but I think it is the same as standard phones and you can't.

This I can't answer since i have never used an ipod. I use my Curve for all my media and songs. But Opera Mini will look a lot better than the browser on the Curve. It looks just like on a computer and will have a box on the screen. Put the box anywhere and click and it will zoom in. I don't even touch my browser anymore. All I use on my ...

I would go with the Curve. You can change the rendering so it looks like Internet Explorer or Netscape when you are on the internet. Or get Opera Mini! It is a lot better than the actual browser on the Curve. The curve will also be more stable of an operating system and won't freeze as much as the HTC would. Not to mention the Curve is the number 1 smart phone in North ...

Verizon isn't the one that is setting the 1 year. Verizon can't touch the divested markets. Same way as Alltel can't touch the non divested markets. If they do, they can get fined by the FCC. This comes from Alltel as the divested parts are still operating as Alltel.

How can they even be selling it when the phone is not even out yet is my question. Last I heard on May 12th is possibly July.

Alltel was working on growing in that aspect. They where working on buying Sprint out. Some powers that be had paperwork all over there offices with offers, etc. to make to Sprint and work on purchasing sprint. Then they came in one day, not even knowing it was going to happen, and told that Verizon was buying Alltel.

Nope, there isn't much that can be done. If it was my kid doing that I would either A) take the phone away for no less than 1 week, he can always use a pay phone or friends phone if he needs one or B) Give him an old deactivated phone so he can call 911 only if the emergency is severe enough.

I am not so sure the store will take it back. Did you let the guy in retention know that it was damaged? If not, he might of mentioned that to you if you had told him. I don't know of any store that would take a phone back with the damage that you said it suffered. Our store for instance will not take a phone back if it got damaged. Even if they ...

Actually, the aircard plans for the divested are still $59. The only way a customer can get it for $40 is if they add it as an add a line to a smartphone. Just wanted to clear that up in case someone reads it as it is $40 no matter what. And as for the Pearl Flip, both will be getting it, but the Divested side will be getting it first as Alltel is going to be the ...

You can get 3rd party ring tones with a Blackberry on an Alltel data plan! I do it all the time through Tuneusin.com and a few other sites. It is the standard phones you can't anymore.

Both. Yes, you are sharing a plan together, but each phone has there own contract. That is why you are seeing two separate dates. Hope that helps, and out of curiosity, why do you want to leave Alltel for US Cellular or Verizon?

in the U.S. Cellular forum

Has anyone heard any Truth to a rumor I heard the other day at a local U.S. Cellular store. A Sales Agent was talking to some people and mentioned that a Private Equity firm is looking at buying U.S. Cellular, the divested Alltel markets and Sprint?

Re: No, I'm quite sane.

It is basically like Alltel A (divested) and Alltel B (non divested). Like 2 companies with the same name. And there is still a chance of the Alltel name staying too with the divested markets. Depending on who buys them of course. Say another private equity firm buys them as some are interested in purchasing Alltel, they might keep the name since it is already established.

Re: This is very strange!
Mar 27, 2009, 5:57 PM
in the Alltel forum

The reason why it is just the divested portions is because even though the divested and non divested both have the Alltel name, they are 2 companies. You can think of it as Alltel A and Alltel B now. Or as Alltel (divested) and Alltel/Verizon (non divested). What Alltel A gets Alltel B doesn't get and vice versa. That is why only the divested side is only getting it. Even if Alltel A wanted ...

It is true as I saw our local Alltel store putting stuff up with it on it already and it is for divested markets only. For the rep to say that, they either haven't heard yet, or you where talking to a non divested rep.

Alltel does have an unlimited plan for $100 a month and has for a while now. It is just not promoted because with the my circle you get to choose who you want to be unlimited and save money. If you have a family of 3 and they all want unlimited, that is $300 a month not including features to have unlimited. Where with my circle you can spend say $80 a month with the $59.99 ...

Re: Does anyone know

I would renew now with Alltel. That way you can keep your plan the way it is. If you renew when you become Verizon, they will make you change your plan to a Verizon plan. And more than likely, you will end up with less minutes than you have now for the same price you are paying now or have to goto a higher price plan to get the minutes you have now. Also, not ...

Ya, it is true, to a point. Our rep told us about this a few days ago. But what he said it was is $40 a month for the data card, not $60 if the data card is put on a plan that has a smartphone on it. This post makes it sound like you can do it on any plan as long as there is a phone. The plan codes are in the system. And ...

It will have an Alltel logo on it as Alltel is still around. Even if the Alltel logo disappears and is replaced by Verizon logo's, the Alltel logo will remain in divisted markets as until the divested markets are bought, it will remain Alltel. Or if a private equity firm buys Alltel, they could even keep the Alltel name as is. Only time will tell what will happen.

Re: Can not port Alltel lines to Verizon?!?!?!
Feb 25, 2009, 10:07 AM

Ya, that is what I meant. From divested to non divested. I am in a divested market and can not port to Verizon. That is what was set up. If you are in a market where you are becoming Verizon you should be able to port your number because you are Verizon. It is divested to non divested that they put the freeze on.

It is not them holding your number hostage. It is another condition that the Government put into place for the buyout. Eventually you will be able to port your number if you want to, but for the time being you are unable too. It is put in place to keep competition going until "everything" is done, as in the billing changed over, the network changed over, etc.

Yes, they did. Cellular One had some GSM towers in some states. When Alltel purchased Cellular One, they also aquired the GSM towers. And in the areas where Verizon is choosing to sell off the Alltel network, those GSM towers will also be sold to the company that chooses to buy the Devisted portion of the Alltel network.

From the wording of the post, I think he is asking why it has picture messaging on it. He doesn't need to download the Verizon os as sms and picture messaging works fine on Alltel on the Pearl. That is why they came out with the 4.5 os. Besides, and correct me if I am wrong, if he did put the Verizon os on his Pearl and left there network or even roamed onto another tower, ...

Re: AT&T Coming to South Dakota? (Rumor or Truth?)
Feb 9, 2009, 4:12 PM
in the AT&T forum

You forget one thing though, if ATT comes to South Dakota, I am sure it would be from buying up the Alltel network that is in South Dakota now and Verizon is choosing to sell. So ATT will pick up the GSM towers and the CDMA towers. All they have to do then is convert the CDMA to GSM towers. Buying up the Alltel network would give ATT a good network in South Dakota as Alltel ...
