I think he meant imei. It doesn't automatically change in the system. You don't have to change it for the phone to work, but you want to call and change it for warranty reasons.

I'm sure they would just waive the roaming fees on the billing side.

LOL! Anybody who would sign that petition doesn't know what goes into putting up/running a cell tower.

Re: Cingular store wants $200 for v400/new activation?

It depends on the deal at the time. This weekend we sold the x427 for free out the door ($100 off). All of December we sold the V60 free out the door ($100 off). I'm also sure not all agents are doing the V400 for 189.99 right now. I suggest shopping a few of the local stores to see before you buy, because both agents and corp. can have good prices.

I will admit that they have strong connections where they do have coverage. I think call quality appears better using the "sprint" method of having the speaker on the phone be really loud. I sold them for a long time and no company had given me as many headaches as Nextel did. That is why it was my personal fantasy that they would go under.

That's because it is inferior. I was hoping they would go out of business after everyone else got ptt, but it seems they will hang in there for a little while longer.

I'm going to have to agree with mmdstech2 on this one. Nextel has the best ptt and justifiably so. I've never encountered a garbled direct connect. Why would anyone spend 7 seconds waiting to connect with a Verizon user when they could have just dialed them and talk live? I've always seen ptt as an expensive "novelty" that only buisinesses that use radios anyways could benefit from.

I hope this isn't in any way a violation of forum rules (if so please inform me), but I found a great site. www.mototone.co.uk has mp3 ringtone downloads and wallpapers specifically for the V300, V400, and V600. This is the only site I could find the mp3s on. It is $3.50 a month for unlimited download. I am in no way affiliated with the site besides being a customer and this is not an "ad." I ...

Knowing and using are two different things. I'm in sales and am used to dealing with customers. "Sharing" towers as in "I'll let your customers use my towers if you let my customers use yours" is the easiest way to describe the situation to them. Even when I mention the term roaming as in "free roaming" it always throws a flag up in the mind of customers. Talking about free roaming agreements and "you'll be ...

That is pretty funny. I sold sprint for 3 years and that pretty much sums up 90% of their customers. The main problem that I found was that over time I started encountering a growing amount of people that had already done Sprint and owe them money.

What I meant by "sharing towers" is customers get to use other companies' signal with no roaming charges. I'm not really sure if there are any lay-persons that would be on this board, but if there are I am catering to them. also, Cingular's "roaming agreements" on the west coast are only good from Washington. California users still can't use ATT or Tmobile without fees as far as I know.

Re: which is better? Verizon, ATT or Cingular, also number portability

Agreed. Find a good deal/phone/coverage combo that fits you. Also, I have not been able to port any numbers outside the top 100 areas yet. I tried twice today. I don't think a carrier will release the number if they don't have to.

My T616 I won in a previous contest is also unlocked. I used a Tmobile card and setup T-zones without problem.

Yes. Cingular/ATT/Tmobile did sign an agreement to share towers. I know Cingular can at least use ATT, but don't have first hand confirmation on Tmobile towers.

There are only 2 I know of on Cingular. One is a Nokia and I forget the other one. I know nothing of plans that work with them because they don't even offer tdma or amps on the west coast.

There are tri-band GSM phones such as the T616 that uses 850/1800/1900. I know that most people use tri-mode to describe cdma 800/1900/amps, but I think you could guess what I meant by tri-mode GSM.

Get a world phone (tri-mode GSM) on Cingular, T-Mobile, or ATT for most countries. CDMA is used some places in Asia and Europe (I know Sprint works in some other countries). Not too sure about the rest of the continents or Verizon's international coverage.

Didn't see your post before I replied.:) I will also add that when I had T-mobile, the 3650 got at least 2 bars of better reception than any other phone offered. I used it for two weeks and I got perfect reception in places that were "drop zones" on every other phone I used (about 20 different models).

I would get the T616. Medium priced and the camera is built in. The only downside is the picture size is not that big. The T226 is free right now on a 2 year and the camera attachment is $50. It takes 640X480 pictures (not bad), but there might be reception issues with it.

To most people, there is no difference between gsm and cdma. The bandwidths are very similar and the clarity is close enough to not tell the difference (more phone model itself than anything). The first major US GSM company Voicestream gave GSM a bad rap. A lot of dropped calls occured, echo, and other bugs that were the fault of Voicestream not GSM itself. I'm not very technical as far as the technologies themselves go, ...

It's probably in the fine print like Sprint's "No roaming charge plan." If you pay $35 a month for 150 minutes and use them all off network, Verizon will not like it because they have to pay someone else for their customer using another company's tower. In some cases it could cost Verizon money and they will kick you off the plan if that is the case. Probably a 50% on-network requirement or something.

I've had the 616 for a couple months now and it is the best phone I've had so far. I will also get my v400 in Jan and use that. I believe it takes bigger pics plus it has mp3 ringtones (big plus for me). I also prefer flips. You may want to wait until it hits the market to make sure there aren't any problems with it though.

You are almost correct. (I had a customer go through this first hand) You have to use at least 50% of your minutes in sprint digital or else they will kick you off the plan (start paying roaming in analog) and still hold you to the contract.

Any phone can be activated on a prepaid account. I just don't think you can send mms or emails with a pp.

I'm serious. Everybody has their opinions on phones so that's cool. I sold Verizon and Sprint for 3 years and couldn't stand all but maybe one or two models that came out for them. The 510, 4400, 111, 1010,... all crap if you ask me.

I work for cingular corp. and we never even ordered them. There were problems with them the day they came out. Our LG rep refuses to use one! I think LG has some of the worst phones on the market and I'm not sad to see them pull the plug on them.
