I wonder how this will be done with basic phones on the same family plan as smart phones. Maybe basic family data and smartphone family data packages?

you must have your charger plugged into the hmdi adapter that comes with the phone for the tv out to work, it does show everything your doing on the phone though which is cool

your right, I know when i activated any messaging phone it always gave me the option to add messaging unlike if I were activating a smartphone it would always require you to add a data plan. So I never enforced it, I would rather make what I could off the upgrade/activation than lose the sale completely over a 'required' feature.

nobody is losing their unlimited data plans, like said above your grandfathered in and that includes everyone that has activated or will activate a smartphone till they say "hey, we have tiered data."
Once you have it, keep it. Even you ppl that use less than 100mb a month and think you that need it..

customer do NOT know the difference, they think they do but 98% of the time there completely wrong. The other 2% their partially wrong.
Also, you can warranty a phone taken off of an account (with att at leat). They run the imei and if the phone is under a year old with no physical or water damage then it can be replaced.
