I have people on Boost, Metro PCS, Straight Talk, yada yada yada come in every day and switch over to my company (a small statewide carrier that has a really good PIA option). Why? Because even though what we offer sucks (outside of our 2G coverage being pretty darn good) it is still better than the refill card pre-paid guys, and way cheaper than AT&T and Verizon's pre-paid options. Also, a $30 pre-paid is a $30 phone... not ...

Firstly, you don't get full access to the network with any of those prepaid options. No prepaid service gives you full access to the same network a contract customer gets. You miss out on roaming agreement areas, you have throttled data, and you have (especially with CDMA) limited phone options that tend to be way worse or very expensive.

Probably AT&T since they have really good coverage where I live, and their network is blazing fast here. we are not scheduled to get LTE from Verizon anytime soon (my city has pretty crappy commercial data connections, so they can't get enough backhaul to the towers to do LTE). I also like SIM card based phones, since then I can get lots of stuff off the interwebs and use it with AT&T. Even better, if from over seas, ...

It meshes really easily, and can be done wirelessly. If you get an iPhone and have an Apple near by, they have classes on how to do that stuff... if not, some AT&T stores can be really, really good at helping out. Otherwise, there are good online guides, do a simple google search for iPhone mac calendar sync, and you should be golden. There are going to be lots of celndar syncing options, but using the Mobile Me services will ...

And techcrunch isn't citing anything specific, only 1 unnamed "source" and they don't make any claim as to who/what they are a source of overall... however, BGR points out their sources are referring to industry wide. Plus, these companies are publicly traded and report these figures to stock holders and the FCC. Clearly, there is a huge chasm between what is being reported (BGR figures and others) and what 1 online publication, that is possibly going to ...

http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/28/40-of-android-p hones-are-returned-absolutely-ridiculous/ I bet they have better sources than you. And yes, I get to see company wide return rates. I am on the phone selection committee for my company, and am the vice chair of it. And maybe you are not paying attention to reality, because, as the article says: "To think that 40% of many Android handsets are returned across the board, however, is crazy." (BGR)

And this was debunked and proven false. You don't have connections with the industry more so than any of us (some of us actually are privy to return rates inside our company, BTW, and those numbers are way out of line). Also, if return rates were that high for Android devices, nobody would be making them nor would they be turning out record profits. They would be bankrupt for return rates at those levels. Also, every manufacturer would be ...

Nobody can figure out what the heck they are even talking about, BTW, since it is 100% open source. What they might be talking about is that Honeycomb hasn't been fully released yet to the public, but will be in due time. Every manufacturer ...

It will not effect the current Android ecosystem

It will still be free and open source with the same terms and agreements for licensing it. This is mostly a move, IMHO, to strengthen Android against lawsuits, as well it is an area Google can make even more money. But they have said the two companies, Motorola and Google/Android will be separate from one another.

to strengthen the Android patent portfolio and defense. I did not see Motorola coming by a long shot. I suspected they would go after smaller companies, likely hardware component manufacturers and designers, but not an entire mobile phone company like Motorola. Heck, if I had been forced to bet on which company I thought they would buy, from the mobile phone producers, it would have been Sony Ericsson or HTC, not Motorola. As for future implications; I think this ...

Re: Sneaky ways carriers extend your contract?
Aug 15, 2011, 1:49 PM
in the General forum

The only time any of the carriers extend a contract is when you renew said contract to take advantage of subsidized pricing on a handset. Some 3rd party retailers, especially online retailers, tack on their own contract and terms when you use their services to get an extra subsidy on the phone. These can have extra clauses that you can't switch off that plan, or you pay that 3rd party retailer an ETF fee of sorts. But that isn't coming ...

1. Yes, in order to have flash on an Android device, it must be running 2.2 or higher. (also needs a fast enough processor, see #2) 2. Processor speed makes a huge difference when going form 528Mhz to 1Ghz, heck really anything under 1Ghz is going to be too slow, with very few exceptions (T-Mobile G2 is 800Mhz, but it is faster at that than most 1Ghz chips because it is a very good design). The reason ...

If you are going to compare a year old phone to phones less than a couple month's old, and act like it isn't top tier because it doesn't have a dual core processor, you got issues and don't understand what top tier is, or have an insanely high standard that includes nothing. BTW, when the iPhone 4 came out, it was the fastest CPU/GPU combo in the cell phone world, and held that title until Tegra2 chips hit. And ...

Most of those off the wall pre-paid services tie the phone number and time to the IMEI# of the phone by using an app built into the phone, regardless of whether they are GSM or CDMA. I have no idea what technology StraighTalk uses; I think it is a mix of GSM and CDMA depending on region and phone; but VirginMobile is CDMA for sure. I also know that STraighTalk has to use the built in app to ...

Deutsche Telecom wants out because T-Mobile USA is losing money big time. The geographical vastness of the US cost a lot of money to build a network across, and to pay for it you need a lot more customers at higher rates than what T-Mobile has and is charging. The business model has failed.

Provide great, trustworthy, customer service that has people buzzing that YOU are the man to see. I built a kiosk in a grocery store into the single best selling (per employee) store in the company by being the MAN to go see.
