At first glance this appears to be a prepaid badge on the galaxy core prime. Can anyone confirm? It would be awesome if cases/ screen protectors were compatible.

This article doesn't clearly state the stipulations surrounding the advertised rate plan, which may cause some confusion. With a 10 GB MORE EVERYTHING plan, a $20 per line discount was available for any smartphone on an edge payment plan. Less than 10GB more everything smartphones on edge received $10 per month discount. The change this article refers to is an increase from $20 to $25 discount, only for smartphones on edge payment plans on $10 GB or higher More ...

I love my G2, and I don't have small hands, but the screen on the G2 is just bordering on too big. I have to adjust the way I hold my phone and balance it on my pinky in order for my thumb to reach the top far corner of the screen. 4.7 inches would be just about perfect screen size. Not having a microSD card slot hasn't been as big a deal as I anticipated, but that being ...

All future smartphones intended for postpay are 4G. This will be for the prepay segment, which is relegated to 3G only. They have been taking existing 4G phones and rebuilding them as 3G only with a different name, such as the LG Lucid -> Optimus Exceed, Galaxy Stellar -> Galaxy Legend. This sort of follows the same trend, although it is a totally different handset than the Moto X, its close enough to say its the "prepaid version".

I hope LG allows developers access to the quick window feature for the flip cover. Right now, the battery life is inaccessible through the quick window, and you cannot take any action on notifications. I'd like to be able to read a text message or call back a missed call or listen to my voicemail without opening up the cover. Right now a very brief icon flashes but it goes away and you can't do anything with it.

Maybe they will call this a galaxy mini? Hopefully it'll be free after rebate. The only problem with the stellar is it doesn't have a flash and the camera is only 3 MP. This will be a welcome addition. We need to remember that budget phones are just as important, if not more so, than flagship phones.

in the Article: Verizon Implementing $30 Upgrade Fee Starting April 22 forum

The $30 monthly fee for data compensates the company for the time it takes to help a new customer learn how to use the new phone. This is just Verizon grasping at a new way to increase margins at the customers expense. If this fee is to pay for tablet training class, then charge customers for participating in the training class. This fee hasn't been in place for over a decade and Verizon has been extremely profitable. The customers ...

in the Article: Verizon Wireless Confirms $2 Fee for Making One-Time Payments forum

Good news, VZW changed their mind, so the fee will not come to pass, it seems. However, to respond to the point you were attempting to make, No, paying with a check by phone does not require the aid of a live rep, as it is available through the IVR automated system. So I'm glad VZW changed course on this one. That fee would have been utterlyunjustifiable.

in the Article: Verizon Wireless Confirms $2 Fee for Making One-Time Payments forum

I could understand if VZW were merely passing on a credit card processing fee. However, this fee will apparently also apply to check by phone or online, which should not incur a merchant fee as a credit card does. Same thing with a visa check card processed as an ATM debit transaction. Verizon needs to be clear about their reason for this fee and make sure their implementation is in alignment with their explanation.

AT least it has a removable battery and memory card. Neither the galaxy nexus nor Droid Razr have both of those. And with dual core 1.5 Ghz processor, and a true HD screen, this is the phone to beat. However, dealbreaker for me, no HDMI port. Why, HTC, can you not include this on your best phones? No excuse.

If you claim sprint's rates are better than those of other carriers, can you post their plans or a linktm their plans? Verizon wireless charges 50 for 5 GB combined 3G/4G, 80 for 10GB combined 3G/4G, with overage of only 10per extra GB. I'm really surprised at sprint's new overage charges. 5 cents per MB is really uncompetitive; it comes out to $50 if you use one extra GB.

Verizon wireless isn't collecting more information than they used to. They always had it What's different now is how they intend to use it. What's important for customers to realize is that none of the information in the reports is "personally identifiable". It's similar to how the news outlets report voter results. They have data that so many people said they voted for candidate X, but the data does not show the names of individual voters.

Because this device is aimed at the budget conscious, not the tech savvy. The customers who are attracted to this device generally won't be comparing pixel density. They want an inexpensive Android device that is easy to text with. Most of them will likely be upgrading from an EnV Touch or EnV3. Some may also trade their Ally for this one if they have an annual upgrade. Android isn't supposed to be restricted to only high end devices. If ...

One thing that was touched on in the review, but more there's more that can be said, is the high level of customization available with this phone. Everyone complains about bloatware, and this phone comes with its fair share. This comment is not intended to provide an opinion on the legality or morality of any type of content available online. Speaking from a purely business perspective, any isp that sells an allowance of data with overage charges would be shooting themselves in the foot if they blocked access to any type of streaming content. Websites that host videos will cause a consumer accessing that content to incur high data usage, which in turn lends itself to customers paying ...

in the Article: FCC's Net Neutrality Rules One Step Closer to Reality forum

THe rules currently entered into the federal register are more lenient with wireless providers compared to wired. On the grandfathered unlimited plans, the price you paid per month was for unlimited service on that device only. Extending the concept of net neutrality to current capped plans with overage charges, it really shouldn't matter how you use the limited amount of data you pay for, so allowing tethering or mobile hotspot at no additional cost would be in agreement with ...

in the Article: FCC's Net Neutrality Rules One Step Closer to Reality forum

Yes. As consumers, we'd all love to keep unlimited, unthrottled data forever. However, net neutrality isn't really about that. Net neutrality means broadband providers can't treat different bits of data differently based on the destination or content. So the provider can charge me whatever I agree to pay and only allow me a certain amount of usage. What they can't do is manage me based on What I access. If I want to stream netflix, or set up a ...

I beg to differ. Verizon wireless throttle policy applies to the top unknown percentage of data users; it does not kick in at a particular amount of data consumption. So far this month, with a week and a half left in my cycle, I've used over 11 GB's and I'm testing about 1.5 mbs down, with a very consistent 800kbs up. for a 3G area, those are pretty average numbers. nothing earth shattering, but certainly not throttled.

There are a set amount of minutes in a day, and therefore also in a month, but you can sign up for an unlimited minutes plan. It doesn't mean there's no limit to the availability of the resource, it means you will be billed one flat save regardless of your usage. In effect, physics and reality are limiting you, but the carrier is not.

Re: Basically
May 19, 2011, 8:20 PM

The key is you can keep a grandfathered plan or feature for as long as you don't change anything. At some point, Verizon will not allow you to change to new hardware unless you move to current pricing. Just like the old America's choice plans. Some people still have them, but certain phones aren't compatible with that plan, so if a customer upgrades to a particular phone they must switch to a nationwide plan. If you hold off ...

This looks like a good thing on the surface, but the underlying issue is one of control. Should the carrier be the one to make decisions about what apps customers are allowed to install? If they switch from saying No off market apps to allowing some off market apps, either way it keeps the customer out of the decision making process and gives the carrier control over their customers' usage.
