in the Article: T-Mobile to Sell BlackBerry Classic May 13 forum

Wasn't it Blackberry that refused to sell T-mobile phones after the promo T-mobile ran for customers to trade in their BB's? I guessing it wasn't T-mobiles decision not to sell the classic until now, but BB just caving in and realizing they need any sale they can get.

Strange. Mine works flawlessly. It was more important when I didn't have unlimited minutes a couple years back, but it still works great when I'm at the gym on their wifi but I get no cell coverage.

There isn't recent update of this chart with iOS 7 yet, but it does look much different: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2013 /06/ahead-of-wwdc-apples-ios-6-is-installed-o n-93-percent-of-iphones And just because you call 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3 the same name doesn't make them the same version. I like Android, but I think the manufacturer support from upgrading OS sucks. I'm happy with my HTC One and HTC's commitment to getting the latest OS out relatively quickly, but that is far from the norm. Next device will be a Nexus any ...

in the Article: ITC Says Samsung Violated Apple Patents, Orders Ban forum

Obama intervened on a ban due to standards essential patents. There is a world of difference between SEP and design patents. SEP are necessary for the products to work and have to be licensed on FRAND terms. Design patents do not have to be licensed. If the company owning a design patent doesn't license it, you just have to use something different. It's not needed to make the product work.

There's at least a few microSIM phones on T-mobile. (nexus 4, HTC ONE, LG Optimus L9). I'm sure plenty more I don't know about. My guess is most new phones are microSIM or nanoSIM. Don't expect there should be many full sized SIM phones coming out anywhere.

in the Article: Current Windows Phone Devices Can't Upgrade to WP8 forum

IMHO, the OS should receive updates throughout the life of a phones contract. Since WP8 apps are not backwards compatible with WP7, you're just pissing off the few customers you have that had been the biggest proponents of the platform. They could have at least done a reduced functionality release like Apple does for the older devices. Sure your giving them 7.8 to provide some UI enhancements, but that will not be compatible for Apps written ...

in the Article: FTC to ITC: Limit Use of Import Bans, Please forum

I think you missed the point of what the FTC is requesting. They want to limit the use "standard essential" patent bans. These patents are required to be licensed under FRAND terms. Device makers have to use these no matter what, hence making them essential and follow different rules. It's an entirely different ballgame from the "design" patents that Apple has filed suits under. Design patents violations can be avoided by creating workarounds, much how HTC ...

I said it on the phone specs discussion board, but this is SO underpowered to be a flagship device. Also looks like they they didn't really work that hard at doing anything innovative on Symbian 3. Not looking good for Nokia!

Flagship Phone? Really??
Jun 14, 2010, 3:29 PM

It is using an ARM11 CPU. This is their top of the line phone? C'mon. Apple, Moto, HTC are all using Cortex A8 based processors since last year. This not even released Nokia is going to be their top of the line running an ARM11. And the screen res is not even close to the new iPhone and Android Flagship phones.

I seriously doubt Apple will release it for all carriers. One of the biggest holdups to releasing a Verizon version IMHO was the fact that they would have to create a different assembly line/BOM for just one additional carrier. The rumors actually point to Apple using a completely different manufacturing partner to build the CDMA version. I think the demand for a Verizon iPhone just got too high and it would be leaving way too much money on ...

They've had great touchscreens in Asia for years. They're just starting to bring them to the US now, but they haven't really developed the OS and applications much in recent years to catch up with the iPhone and Pre UI's and application support. Before the iPhone, they were some of the best phones I've ever used. Now it's really kind of hard to compete on their own platform and it's really smart of them to focus ...

Why can't they all support 8GB? Some support 2GB, another 4GB, and another 8GB. Why can't they just support the same spec? I assume the hardware to support any of these specs is comparable in size and cost. The devices run the same OS. So why can't it be standardized?

So since they are stuffing more pixels into the same size sensor, does that not mean that they are just going to get crappier pictures at a larger resolution? In the camera world, I've always seen that the larger the sensor size to pixel count ratio, the better quality image. More pixels in smaller sensors == crap.

They don't have to consult shareholders to make a purchase though. Sure the board could get ousted if it's a bad move, but this seems to make sense. I'm not talking about buy Nextel. That would be foolish at this point. I'm talking about the 700 mhz public safety spectrum. They would not need to issue new debt to finance it because I think the minimum price for the spectrum was about $1.3 Billion ...

Motorola should buy it
May 14, 2008, 4:58 PM
in the Article: FCC Revisits Public Safety Network forum

Yep, with all their problems, they should still do this. Maybe I'm wrong, but here are my reasons: 1) Since it's hard to sell, they can bet a low ball price on the spectrum. Maybe $1 Billion? They have $20 billion in current assets and their balance sheet is $15 billion net positive (assets-liabilities) or $8.5 B current assets - current liabilities. 2) They are already the leader in the US for 2-way radio communications and one of ...

Re: Possibilities?
May 5, 2008, 3:24 PM
in the Article: Sprint Seriously Considering Sale of Nextel forum

It would make sense since sprint towers (not the nextel towers)run on the same spectrum as T-Mobiles GSM towers. Yes they'll need new base stations (or modify existing) to run GSM, but it would probably be cheaper than adding your own towers to expand coverage. And if they're allowed to keep all that spectrum by the FCC, maybe they can offer 3G over that same spectrum as well(though they did already shell out a lot of dough ...

$1 Billion sounds like a nice round number, so lets just stop paying? If they're still using patented implementations in their products, why shouldn't they be forced to pay up/or banned from shipping infringing products?

Software Development Kit. It's for third parties to actually create native programs for the iPhone. Similar to all the programs you can add now on a jailbroken phone, but sanctioned by Apple (and likely needing to go through iTunes to sell apps and giving Apple a cut of the revenue).
