Maybe mine's different (five months after the original question), but I've found it necessary to
o point the top toward you
o put your thumbs on either side of the five-dotted star at the bottom
o push both down and away from you.
That's how I found to open it---HTH

To a first approximation, none.

The bowling game limits you to one player, one frame, and you have to jump through all the hoops to restart the game for another frame.
I haven't explored the limits of Pac-man, but ``Buy the game'' nags are all over.
