Re: These are not the same thing
the reason the SDK for WP8 and WP7.8 are different is because fundamentally the OSes have vastly different hardware requirements nd features. For anyone who is an WP app dev, WP8 is backwards compatible for WP7 apps. Like Apple, the 7.8 update adds MOST of the new features on the older hardware.

Re: How do I get my rebate?
Exclusive dealer. idk, man... it's a tough call. the BB 10 stuff -could- be alright, but it's tough to wait. I was a BB guy for like 6 years, and went to Android for a year or so, and now on WP7. I have to say I am reeeally digging it...
Re: This type of thing bugs me.
ah yes, the eternal debate of just including the cost of activation or upgrading into the handset cost. Won't happen. Why? The average Joe consumer will walk into a retail store and see the deal for "free" or whatever and jump on it. Make that free or discounted handset thirty bucks more, and they are less likely to buy. Normal customers don't really feel they're paying for something when it goes on the bill to be seen later.
Don't be surprised
The big dogs all move in lock step. One does something, you can bet the others will follow. AT&T implemented a $36 fee not too long ago and Sprint has it too, and even T-Mo has an $18 fee - this was bound to happen. It's revenue. The end.
Re: BIGGEST PHONE LAUNCH THIS YEAR AND NOW THIS?
At least they are doing something about it. The Focus Flash comes to mind as a comparison. Ongoing issues with freezing, fully software related. Where's Samsung stepping up with a credit? Hell, they didn't even acknowledge the issue.
"Rebate" is a $100 bill credit
I applaud Nokia and AT&T for doing the "right" thing. The $100 bill credit will post on your next bill cycle. No "predpaid debit cards" or paperwork or phone calls. Just buy one through 4/21 and you're good! The update is slated for the 16th, but only a small percentage of the handsets are experiencing this issue. If you are in fact experiencing the problem, take it back to your store and get a new one. Boom. Done.
Re: How do I get my rebate?
A credit will be automatically posted to your AT&T account. No action is required on your part
Re: WHAT Costs Will Be Increased?
I pay 399.99 for the Atrix 2. I sell it for 99.99. That's a lot of "red cents" I lose up front. AT&T pays me a commission based off the rate plan and features my employees sell. So... on a $9.99 partner line, let's say with a $20 data plan, factoring in the subsidy cut on the phone, assuming AT&T didn't pay commissions on the sale as well, it would take 10 months before they turn a profit ...
So they hope to accomplish what? Driving a historically significant fixture in American innovation further into the ground? They need to chill with the lawsuits...
Re: Just more evidence
That's a terrible analogy, AJ. So... "I" = DT? T-Mobile = the barrels of toxic waste? AT&T = a shipping company that dumps barrels like this at sea? I can't even think of a way to edit that to make sense. If DT is eager to sell their US operations, then why not work with a company that has the resources to do so. Regardless of AT&T's motivation to do this (spectrum/customers/eliminate competition) you can't fault them for doing so. People's best interests ALWAYS ...
Re: i get it!!!!
Re: Cook County
huh? lol Cook County FO LYFE!!!!
Yeah? Where are you getting your info from??? I can say with certainty that I have hundreds of customers with legacy Dobson plans from 4 years ago, paying $55 for unlimited calling, $50 for 1600 nationwide minutes, etc. I have seen grandfathered Alltel, AT&T Wireless, and Centennial plans as well. There had been no announcement about the fate of T-Mobile plans, but judging by the fact that the only time I've seen Cingular/AT&T require a plan change from ...
Re: This is good news
what? WebOS is undeniably awesome. The hardware and 3rd party support has sucked though.
Re: Switching to Sprint
Dearest John, Thank you for your prompt reply. My deepest and most heartfelt apologies for not responding to your reply in a quick fashion. I was busy, and honestly forgot I replied to you in the first place. To answer your question, "What is the problem", I take issue with many things. Such as why "blue raspberry" is a flavor for anything when raspberries aren't in fact blue, nor have I ever tasted a raspberry with the overpowering sweetness ...
Re: Switching to Sprint
...John, haven't you said before that you are a stockholder or some such nonsense? I'll bet you are providing your "clients" some really great advice. Out of curiosity, what do you charge people for your services? it seems like whatever savings you think shuffling people over to Sprint would give your clients wouldn't be massive savings, and wouldn't give you much margain to slurp off of. ....yeah.......slurp. Oh, and FYI - THAT is not why carrier reps don't ...
Great news for Atrix 4G owners!
I love my Atrix running GingerBlur, but feel like the kid with asthma sitting on the bench at the playground watching all the other kids play. I want to throw new Android builds on there, or CyanogenMod, or whatever i want... but just can't thanks to that stupid locked bootloader. Unfortunately by the end of the year I'll probably have moved on to another handset! lol
Re: "have you worked in cellular at all? "
Azeron, I lost my job as a long term result of the Dobson/AT&T merger. you know what, it sucks, but I went to indirect and I'm MUCH happier now. You are really crazy against the AT&T/T-mo merger, but why? Seriously though. Does it affect you?
I'm Verizon totally planned their LTE launch around their plan to "show" Sprint what was up. Boy, their faces must red now that they failed in their attempt to show up Sprint. Wait... this just in: this outage has nothing to do with Sprint. Thanks for playing.
Re: AT&T is ruthless
With other acquisitions, customers became immediately upgrade eligible. So, if someone has a G2 and wanted an Atrix, let's say, they could upgrade right away.
Re: Not Likely
I see grandfathered plans from Dobson ALL day. Now and again I'll see legacy AT&T Wireless plans (before Cingular took the name. Now if you want to talk about keeping plans that are low revenue, take a look at the old (and still active) $45 unlimited calling plans. As far as I am aware, all the Centennial customers are grandfathered...
Re: evil master plan
Agreed. Verizon (the only "real" competition we have where I am at) is port negative to AT&T. The number one reason I hear from customers porting in is poor Verizon customer service experience. We bend over backwards to help our customers, and it shows.
Re: "an upgrade over the HD7 version offered by T-Mobile"
improvement #1 - it's not on T-Mobile. ;)
Re: Props to T-Mobile
You don't know what you're talking about. I am listening to one of my gimps talk a guy right now that has a legacy Dobson plan - the same plan he has had since 2004. He's resigning his contract for a second time since being with AT&T, and still keeping his old plan. You should be rejoicing, ant - you'll in all likelihood be able to keep your plan AND not have crappy T-Mo coverage! Best of both worlds...
Re: My point exactly.
Yawwwwn... no one has 4G... blah blah blah... yeah we know.
Re: Amazing the logic
What the hell? Dude, are you retarded??? It's TETHERING with a cell phone!! lolololol Your examples are TERRIBLE!!! hahaha please tell me you're just pulling everyone's chain... can I put in a request? Holocaust - compare tethering charges to the Holocaust! haha You're CRAZY, man! hahahaha
Re: Well thank god it wasn't Sprint!!!!
Holy crap, dude. Chill out. So this is a T-Mobile customer that is happy that his carrier is being absorbed by a healthier and larger company (with compatible network infrastructure) and you're tearing him apart? What is wrong about what he said, aside from his opinion differing from yours? Sure, comparing the Titanic to Sprint is a little dramatic, but seriously? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions... Your "THE END IS NEAR!!!!" post is a taaaaaaad unnecessary. Sorry.
Re: "Money talks"
Yes, Camel. No doubt a company coughed up THIRTY-NINE BILLION DOLLARS just to make sure there weren't two companies bigger than them.......even hough Sprint + T-Mobile's customer bases combined still puts the combined company in 3rd...
yes, no major changes will need to be made to the networks except prices. That doesn't even make sense. I see where you were going with it, buuuuut...
Re: Sad, sad day! Now serious data users have only 1 choice, Sprint
It's not an issue of who has coverage where. It has to do with competition. For example, if there is an area that Sprint doesn't own spectrum in, they could buy the market if the FTC determines that AT&T's absorption of T-Mobile would make for unfair competition (read: too little competition). There will be a lot of divested markets...
AT&T grandfathered the Dobson plans
This includes all those $45 unlimited plans and also the obnoxious $19.99 plans... Every Dobson Cellular One plan that people had, they could still keep - to this day, even after switching equipment, SIM cards, etc. AT&T has been very good to those customers. I assume with as big of an acquisition this is, they'd load up Telegence with the proper plans/features/etc. A lot of customers see value in Rollover and the new mobile to any mobile option, so ...
Re: There are two ways to do this
selective memory much? lol there was a ton of hullabaloo around the VZW Alltel acquistion...
Re: There are two ways to do this
It has nothing to do with gaining coverage. It all has to do with acquiring subs and spectrum, the latter being the biggest motivator.
Re: and why isnt the FCC telling ATT to knock it off their 4G BS??
This is relevant to tethering how?
Re: AT&T needs to learn the functions of Android b4 they claim users are doing somethin wrong
...why shouldn't they be allowed to do it? If you don't agree with having to pay for tethering, go to Verizon then where they won't charge you for.......no wait.
Re: DEAR AT&T
drats. you can't steal from them? they should go to hell then.
Re: Here comes...
Yes, I don't do business with companies that don't let me steal from them either...
